Give Plants a Chance!

In a somewhat secret spot within The LAB Anti-Mall, you’ll stumble across a vintage airstream overflowing with house plants calling your name. Take a step inside and you’ll meet the plant wiz, Matthew.

When did your love for plants start?

My love for plants started back in 2017 when my mom asked me to prune her Golden Pothos. I learned that you can basically "clone" plants (propagation), became super interested, and fell in love with the hobby!

Why did you open Plant Matter Shop?

My partner Sandy and I wanted to teach people that keeping a plant is easier than they think. Through our plant-specific Care Guides and fun, quirky branding, we hoped that more and more people would discover their own love for plants, because everyone should have a bit of plant matter in their home.

What drew you to The LAB Anti-Mall?

Oh my goodness, where do we start: the aesthetic, the amazing small businesses, the weather?! We actually love how The LAB supports small, independent businesses --they really want to see every business here succeed and grow. Shout out to our friends over at POTPOT. We wouldn't have known about our little Airstream if it weren't for them. We're so grateful!

How would you describe your aesthetic?

Our aesthetic is minimal, yet fun. We use a lot of odd-shaped blobs and color because we're not like a regular plant shop, we're a fun plant shop. Mean Girls anyone? :)

We know you love all your plant children equally, but let’s get real… what’s your favorite plant?

This one is hard! If we had to choose it would be the Rhaphidophora tetrasperma AKA the "Mini Monstera". We bought one back in April 2020 which was about 10 inches tall and it has since grown to 14 feet as of June 2021. This plant is taking over the Airstream and we just love it!
